Midwest Furfest Furry Hams Summary

Welcome back everyone from Midwest Furfest! Thanks to everyone who participated in the furry hams events, hunted for the foxes, and made use of the repeater and talk-in chat frequencies.

First off, I'd like to thank [info]justincheetah and the Neofelis Communications Amateur Radio Club, KF4RRY, for supplying the MFF Furry Hams with their portable 440MHz repeater and 144MHz simplex link for us to communicate with while attending the convention.

Secondly, I'd like to apologize to everyone for the lack of a Sunday mobile foxhunt. When I fired up the beacon to test it that morning, a component on the beacon controller board was heating up a lot, and causing the radio to not unkey at the end of the transmission, even after the board stopped sending the TX signal. Since the equipment doesn't belong to me (I was borrowing it from my college's amateur radio club) I didn't want to risk having the TX key stuck and burning out their radio, or melting further components on their beacon controller board. Despite the technical problems with the second one, we had quite a successful stationary foxhunt and small get together afterwards. The following furs successfully found the stationary fox within the hour:

BJ Buttons, N9WEB
Sniffer, K9YAP
Valreign, N4OHP
Smash, WO1FIE
Techwolf
Trail Horse, KE6RKT
SparkyBlueFox, AB8B
Lil'Pup, KF4PUP

As well as the other furs who were closing in on it right as the hour ended, who all I didn't record names of, but I remember including Hyena Girl, KD8AYJ, and Cliff, K9INE. Let me know if you participated and I forgot about you!

Hopefully next year we'll have as big a turnout, with some more reliable equipment, and have another successful hunt at MFF's new location for 2008.

Thank you all for participating!
