Crow Mountain Hillclimb needs radio operators
If anyone's within decent driving distance of Scottsboro, AL, the Crow Mountain Hillclimb (CMHC) is still in need of experienced ham radio operators to maintain a safety and control network. CMHC is an SCCA-sanctioned class-4 time trial where cars race individually from the bottom of a mountain to the top on a closed-off county road (think Pikes Peak but on a paved surface). Workers are stationed along the route so that cars are always visible by one or more stations, and volunteer ham radio operators have maintained the communication network every year. The safety network is on 2m and operators must bring their own eqipment. Good antennae and mobiles with a good power source (lead acid battery) are highly recommended over HTs for the mountainous terrain.
